It is currently -17 degrees here in Iowa. Here is what we have to look forward to… This is the National Weather Service shouting, not me….

DANGEROUS TO LIFE THREATENING WIND CHILLS OF 30 TO 50 BELOW WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. ACTUAL TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL RISE TO BETWEEN 5 BELOW AND 10 BELOW ZERO. TONIGHT… LOW TEMPERATURES WILL BE BETWEEN 20 BELOW AND 30 BELOW ZERO. EVEN WITH LIGHT WINDS… WIND CHILLS AT THESE TEMPERATURES WILL EASILY DROP INTO THE DANGER CATEGORY.

A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS A COMBINATION OF BITTERLY COLD AIR AND WIND WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS MAY RESULT IN FROST BITE… HYPOTHERMIA OR EVEN DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS… DRESS APPROPRIATELY IN LAYERS COVERING EXPOSED SKIN. FROSTBITE ON EXPOSED SKIN WILL OCCUR IN AS FEW AS 10 MINUTES IN THESE CONDITIONS.

THESE TEMPERATURES… WHEN COMBINED WITH WINDS FROM 10 TO 20 MPH… WILL PRODUCE DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING WIND CHILLS OF 30 BELOW TO NEAR 50 BELOW ZERO.

Yeah, it was -26 here this morning, with a high that won't break zero for the second day in a row. Still -14 at 10am EST.

Will I love your blog but you always choose for yourselve a rather horrible and unflattering mugshot (I think you take them yourself with a wide angle lens – Brad Pitt wopuld struggle under such circumstances.). If you haven't got a friend willing to take a better head shot with an 85mm, why not crop the one of you in the boat. You do look much nicer in it. Sorry if this seems a bit familar, my feelings for you are really purely platonic.

I made the mistake of waking to the bus stop to pick up the kids as they cam back to school. In about 10 minutes my face started to freeze up and I was kicking myself for not putting on gloves because keeping my hands in my pockets was not working well. It felt a lot like the 1970s and I found myself hoping that the AGW alarmists were actually correct. Like you, I prefer temperatures to be higher.

Thanks for uploading the picture.. That is such a beautiful place for boating. The place is terrific..
