There's a trick to deciphering this Brooks column.

Step 1. Go to your bookshelf and get out your copy of Irving Kristol's Neoconservatism: The Autobiography of an idea.

Step 2. Turn to page 92.

Step 3. Holding the open book in your hands, gently lick the pages while re-reading Brooks' column.

If that doesn't work, try sitting on a copy of Leo Strauss' An Introduction to Political Philosophy and return to Step 1.
