There's often a big advantage in terms of quality of care when you see the same doctor over and over. The quality goes up again when you've found a doctor who actually cares about you, listens to you, explains things to you, etc. This is not my experience of the big doctor-shack-type places, where they have a bunch of pretty young, relatively inexperienced doctors and I'm sure all kinds of incentives for those doctors to spend a minimum amount of time with each patient. Sometimes you just need a scrip, but sometimes you need more.

Don't give him any ideas about Universal Meal Insurance!

Just imagine how much we'd be paying, and how much regulation would screw things up, if nobody paid directly for the meals they ate and the federal government managed it for us.
