Solidarity as such just &lt;i&gt;is&lt;/i&gt; the feeling of -- or the &lt;i&gt;desire&lt;/i&gt; for the feeling of -- being immersed in a larger social whole (being a part of &quot;something larger than oneself&quot; is often how it&#039;s expressed). And I&#039;d suggest that this desire has emerged in modern times as a symptom of a larger reaction to the emergence of the modern individual, stripped of the unconscious immersion in the collective that characterizes traditional societies.</description>
