One thing that you DIDN’T reference in this post. And this is something that Volokh has referenced recently without mentioning Rawls (someblogger, maybe me, has to connect your two ideas) is that Rawls held that beliefs derived SOLELY from appeals to Revelation did not qualify as Public Reason.

Therefore, cultural warriors (Protestant fundies) who argue b/n Revelation alone, can’t be good Rawlsians. But Catholics who might appeal to natural law for their socially conservative positions, can.
